Backcountry skiing has been a big part of Mitch Dann’s life since he moved to the Tetons in the early 1990’s. He is a professional ski patroller at Snow King Mountain and a leader in their avalanche mitigation program. Trained as an engineer Mitch has a strong affinity for and fascination with snow science. He calls snow the ultimate material as it changes each day, reflecting back on his material science courses. He teaches avalanche education to ski patrollers at Snow King and has instructed for AAI since 2019.
Spending 30 years working with start-up companies, Mitch gained experience managing risk and uncertainty – concepts that carry into the avalanche world. He completed his Avy 3 with AAI in 2013 and is an Outdoor Emergency Care Instructor. He serves on the board of the Bridger Teton Avalanche Center Foundation. He previously served as Patrol Representative for the Snow King Volunteer Ski Patrol, Board President for Teton Youth and Family Services and instructed skiing for 10 years at JHMR.
