Karen hails from Germany and found her passion for skiing in Telluride, Colorado. She spent many years ski
touring the San Juan backcountry and ski patrolling at the Telluride Ski Area, learning about avalanches and forecasting. She has climbed and skied a lot of the Colorado Fourteeners, the Grand Teton, and Denali, along with trips to the Canadian Rockies, Alaska, the European Alps, and the high Andes in Chile. Karen works for Exum Mountain Guides in the Tetons, Mountain Trip in the Alaska Range, Valdez Heli-Ski Guides in the Chugach, and San Juan Mountain Guides in Colorado. She is a physicist by training and loves thinking about the science happening in the snowpack, unless she is busy skiing powder.
