Chris Benson is from New Mexico. He attended Western Colorado University in Gunnison and earned a B.A. in Geology. Afterwards, he moved to Crested Butte where he worked as a ski patroller and avalanche forecaster, in addition to instructing for Outward Bound and the American Alpine Institute in Alaska, Washington, Utah, Colorado and Ecuador.
In 2011 with Outward Bound, Chris became the Southwest Program Director in Moab, Utah. In 2018 he finished a M.S. in Geology from Northern Arizona University that focused on glacial lake sediments in the Brooks Range, AK. Currently, he is a commercial pilot based out of Moab Utah during the warm season and teaches avalanche courses across the intermountain west during the winter.
