Andy started teaching for AAI in 2011, but has been a student of the mountains for more than 3 decades. Andy’s climbing resume is long and distinguished with several 8000-meter peaks to his credit. Andy has climbed and skied in many of the world’s greatest ranges. He has also pursued endurance running and biking whole- heartedly and has sought to understand the physiology behind the pain.

Andy’s passion for the science of avalanche and forecasting is well paired with his love for being in the mountains. Andy thinks long and hard about avalanche dynamics and is able to explain the evolution of the winter’s snowpack with a clarity that few can match.

Andy calls Colorado his home and is a full time Ski Patroller/Snow Safety Technician (along with his dog Ayup) at Breckenridge Ski Area. One piece of advice: If Andy invites you to join him for a birthday ski/bike/run … politely decline.
