Advanced professional training


The goal of the level 2 refresher is to update skills and information from previous Level 2 courses. This course is great preparation for a Level 3 course or for continuing education.

Forty percent of the course is classroom based and the other sixty percent is field based.

We will travel in the backcountry, in and around avalanche terrain.

This course fulfills the SWAG upgrade requirement.


This refresher will cover:

  1. Advanced rescue scenarios and transceiver practice

  2. Advanced metamorphism review

  3. Avalanche mechanics

  4. Strengths & limitations of stability tests

  5. Stability analysis - incorporating strength, structure & energy.

  6. Documentation as per SWAG requirements

  7. Route selection, travel techniques & group management in

avalanche terrain

  1. Decision making tools
